The Story Behind The Name
Galia Wellness Services grew from a long-held vision shaped by lived experience and a deep awareness of the gaps in mental health care across Northern Manitoba.
Having grown up in the North, founder Caroline Winship witnessed firsthand how limited access to specialized, trauma-informed support can deeply impact individuals and families.
During her own healing journey, Caroline came to understand how unaddressed trauma—particularly generational and spiritual trauma—can affect both mental and physical well-being.
At a particularly difficult time, the name Galia came to her in a dream.
Galia reflects the attribute of God / Creator as Redeemer—
The One who restores, rescues, and brings wholeness out of suffering.
The root word gal, meaning "wave or billow", evokes the image of our Creator's redemptive presence moving powerfully and persistently, carrying healing and renewal where it is most needed.

-
In Hebrew tradition, Galia (גליה) is a poetic and spiritual name. It speaks of movement, transformation, divine connection - and of flowing through life with grace and strength.

-
In the traditions of Canada's First Peoples, Indigenous Regalia is the term for traditional dress —the items worn by dancers at a powwow or by individuals in a ceremony—an extension of the person themselves, with a breathtaking flood of colour, movement, and spirit. Feathers catch the light like prisms, bells sing with every step, and intricate beadwork tells stories a thousand years old. It is deeply personal and often sacred, reflecting one's identity, spirituality, family, and tribal heritage. It is worn to be more of who you are, not to be someone you are not.
-
In Arabic, Galia (غاليه) means "precious", "valuable", or "dear". It is used to describe something treasured, rare, and worthy of love and admiration.

-
In Slavic cultures, the name Galia is found across Bulgaria and other Eastern European regions, where it is associated with softness, affection, and tenderness.

In this way, Galia becomes a name that gently weaves across cultures, carrying a shared language of healing, identity, and belonging.
It is these layers of meaning that called this practice into being, long before the doors ever opened.

Over time, Caroline found healing through appropriate trauma care, education, and personal growth. This journey clarified her calling to walk alongside others seeking wholeness and meaningful change.
Founded in 2025, Galia Wellness Services was created to offer compassionate, accessible, and culturally responsive mental health care to Manitoban communities
—grounded in the belief that healing is possible and that lasting change can begin with a single wave.
