Caroline N.J. Winship

Founder & Lead Psychotherapist - M.Couns.,CCPA, CACFT

Caroline is a dedicated psychotherapist and lifelong Northerner, deeply rooted in the communities she serves. Raised in Gillam, Grand Rapids and Thompson Manitoba - where she continues to raise her family with her husband Jason, Caroline has a long-standing commitment to the well-being of Northern Manitobans. Her life and work reflect a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by families and individuals in remote and rural areas.

Before returning to the workforce, Caroline devoted fifteen years to home-educating her 4 youngest children. During that time, she became a passionate advocate for neurodiverse learners—serving as the Northern Representative for the Autism Society of Manitoba and speaking at both provincial homeschooling conventions and public school Professional Development seminars on supporting students with exceptional needs. Her lived experience as both an educator and a parent laid the foundation for her compassionate, person-centered approach to therapy.

Caroline’s professional journey resumed with the Canadian Mental Health Association, where she held key roles as a Transitional Housing Coordinator and Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist. As Transitional Housing Coordinator Caroline supported adults experiencing housing instability by coordinating safe, supportive accommodations and helping clients navigate systems to achieve long-term housing and wellness goals. In her role as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist, she worked collaboratively with adults experiencing persistent mental health challenges, providing individualized support focused on skill development, community integration, and recovery-oriented care.

Her academic path includes focused training in Psychology and Applied Behaviour Analysis at the University of Manitoba, followed by an Advanced Diploma in Biblical Counselling from Light University and a Certificate of the Seminary from Briercrest Seminary. Recognizing the growing and complex mental health needs in her community, Caroline began her Master of Counselling degree in 2022 and graduated in 2025. Along the way, she earned certifications in Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Intervention Skills, and the Fundamentals of Addiction while also discovering a passion for helping those who have suffered from Spiritual Abuse.

During her Master’s internship, Caroline had the privilege of being mentored by Dr. Jann Derrick, a renowned expert in Indigenous Historical Trauma and the intergenerational effects of Residential School experiences. This mentorship deepened Caroline’s understanding of culturally responsive care and the lasting impact of collective trauma on families and communities in the North.

In 2025, Caroline fulfilled a long-held dream by launching Galia Wellness Services—a private practice created to bridge the gap in accessible and affordable mental health care in Northern Manitoba. She continues to serve full-time as a Counsellor at Mel Johnson School in Wabowden, while expanding her efforts to bring holistic, culturally aware, and accessible mental health services to individuals and families across the region. Caroline N.J. Winship, Master of Counselling (M.Couns.), is a professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and a student member of the Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy (CACFT). She is currently awaiting approval for her designation as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC).
